1) What To Wear for your Initial Evaluation
You’ll need to expose the body part that is effected (knee, shoulder, back, etc.) Loose fitting apparel such as sweatpants/stretch pants and t-shirt are ideal. Our private treatment rooms offer a comfortable place to change if you are coming before or after work..
2) What To Expect
Your initial evaluation will consist of a thorough past history, a physical exam including specialized tests and treatment which may include hands-on techniques, exercises or stretches or a pain relieving modality. A home exercise program will be tailored to meet your needs based on your exam. The initial evaluation is usually 45-60 minutes in length.
3) Treatments & Terminology
Joint Mobilization – The application of movement and force to a joint for the purpose of increasing motion and range. Can be used to reduce pain.
Soft-Tissue Massage – The application of movement and force to muscles, ligaments, nerves or other soft-tissue for the purpose of promoting healing and normalization. Can be used to reduce pain.
Pressure-Point Release – In this procedure the Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant searches for muscles that are actively in spasm or causing pain. Once a trigger point is located, pressure is applied 30-90 seconds which helps to release the trigger point and relax the muscle. Initially it will cause soreness but should diminish steadily. This helps to normalize the muscles in that area.
Therapeutic Exercises – Strengthening and balancing the muscles around your joints are essential for good movement, stability and pain relief. Physical therapists are the leading experts in helping those with pain, arthritis, obesity, diabetes and heart disease get fit and strong safely.
