The event is presented by the Pittsford Mom’s in Motion with proceeds benefiting the Heather Frazer Boyum Iron Angel Memorial Foundation. The Platinum sponsor of the 2016 Iron Angel 5K run is Regain Physical Therapy in Pittsford.
Heather was a beloved member of the Pittsford Moms in Motion, a Rochester-area group of women dedicated to fitness and empowering each other. Four years after Heather’s death, Pittsford’s Moms in Motion members are still dedicated to keeping Heather’s memory alive.
Merely weeks after celebrating her 10th wedding anniversary with her husband, Eric, Heather Boyum was training on her bike early Sunday morning, when she was struck by both a car and motorcycle driven by intoxicated drivers. Heather’s death left behind her children, Frazer and Paige (at the time 7 and 4, respectively) and stunned family members and friends.
Heather was a biology and chemistry teacher at the Fairport High school. She was a runner and cyclist and began competing in triathlons in 2010. She completed her first half- Ironman Triathlon at the Mussleman in Geneva just 2 weeks before she was killed, and dreamed of completing a full Ironman in Lake Placid in the coming years.
Heather possessed an infectious enthusiasm and competitive spirit. Her smile and her heart will be missed but her personal motto of “Chose Happy” will continue to inspire others for many years to come. She was loved by all who knew her.
Proceeds from the run will benefit the The Iron Angel Memorial Foundation. To keep Heather’s memory alive, her husband Eric, along with Heather’s parents, Graham and Candy, inspired Pittsford Moms in Motion members to form the Heather Frazer Boyum Iron Angel Memorial Foundation. The Foundation assists families and individuals who’ve lost loved ones or face personal crises, as well as the organizations that support them, by providing funds to aid with emergency, medical and educational expenses. Additionally, the Foundation raises funds to do good deeds that will specifically honor the memory and legacy of Heather.
The 5k is organized and presented by the Pittsford Mom’s in Motion. A fitness group for women that offers programs that include running and walking groups, as well as participation in triathlons. The group meets Saturday mornings in the village of Pittsford. Book group, workouts, hikes and other types of fitness of training take place during the rest of the week. The group’s motto is “Fun, Fitness & Philanthropy”.
